Beginning Level 4, the students know how to read and write in simple sentences in Greek. They begin to understand the use of the language and relate it to English. They collect information from various sources and they start to investigate the beliefs and lifestyles of other cultures in Australia. Students consolidate prior knowledge and expand on grammar and vocabulary, gradually immersing in the language structures. Spelling and dictation words are given every week. Grammar and conversation is emphasized as well as teacher support and scaffolding on every topic. Students read simple stories and experiment with language talking about daily life in Greece and Australia. They make links and reflect upon knowledge on cultural heritage, history and self-identity understanding how language influences their social relationships. They use graphic organisers to classify and compare and ICT to display knowledge of language and creativity.
